NEW FIREFIGHTING TOOL PUT INTO SERVICE

pIn an continuing effort to protect the lives of our citizens and firefightersnbspthe nbspElizabeth Avenue Fire Company has placed into service two FIT-5 powdered aerosol firefighting units.nbsp Our line officers were made aware of this new technology while attending a firefighting conference a demonstration was held at the fire academy and the results were impressive.nbsp These units are about the size of a lunch box and weigh nine pounds.nbsp The units are being carried in the Chief and Deputy Chief vehicles.nbsp Upon arrival of a working fire the units is deployed by throwing it into the burning room or space.nbsp Once activated powder aerosol isnbspdeployed innbspa huge cloud of super-fine aerosol powder. This powder attacks the fire chemically interrupting the Fire Triangle. The powder is safe for people to be around and is safe for equipment. Oxygen levels in the room dont change so any trapped victims arent harmed.
